Our Story

Steve and Jo live in the beautiful Northern Southland area, in a small towhship called Athol south of Queenstown. It’s an inspiring place to live with lots of open space, clear skies and a great environment for food production.

We are a hard working couple. Kiwi Saffron Ltd is our family business. Steve and Jo are passionate about growing the highest quality saffron for our customers health and wellbeing. Its important to us to provide excellent service, support to our customers and to remain ‘those nice saffron growers from way down south of the South Island’

Steve is a beekeeper of many years, having bees means we can produce fabulous raw clover honey on our property. We infuse the honey with our saffron to make something unique and special, a blend of two pure superfoods

We met in 2004 and married in 2013. Since then we have fast tracked our saffron production. Back in 2013 Jo wanted to plant 500 saffron corms for our home use. Steve turned that number into an order for 40,000 – Kiwi Saffron Ltd was born!

Things that are important to us:

Caring for our land, only natural products used. Saffron is sustainable to grow in our pristine environment. Minimum water required, suitable for alternative land use in drought areas

Caring for our customers, providing efficient, personal service and support. Committed to exceeding customers expectations and valuing feedback.

Growing only the highest quality Sargol (all red) saffron, tested annually to prove its purity and potency

Producing healthy food, naturally grown and carefully handled. Saffron is gluten free and vegan friendly

We are interested in innovation and researching added value products to customers.

We are the growers, packers and distributors of our saffron..so know every step of the path from paddock to plate
